Cattle egrets
I don’t see cattle egrets very often. They just don’t seem to be around the wildlife areas I frequent. However, while making a quick visit to the Big Muddy National Wildlife Refuge I spotted a small group of them near a flooded corn field. The birds are somewhat approachable – unlike their cousins the great egrets and snowy egrets. They are handsome birds with their orange on white plumage. That touch of color adds just enough contrast to bring in definition and texture to the bird.
