Up close and personal
While out in the field I had an opportunity to get up close and personal with this indigo bunting. I offered a quick call and he came running – fast! In the close up image he is about 9-10 feet away. Although their song is faint, he was singing up a storm. And, you may know, their feathers aren’t blue. They are closer to black. It’s the light diffraction passing through them that make them appear blue. At least that’s what the scientists say and that’s good enough for me.
