When it rains…
… it pours. And, I head out with my camera! The first image of Oscar (barred owl) was taken in late afternoon on a slightly overcast day – no rain. The next two were taken in a down pour. I love all three images, but the two in the rain add another dimension to glassing wildlife, especially birds. I caught him looking at me in the first rain soaked image and napping in the second. The falling rain drops also add to the mood of the scene. Hunkered down and staying dry is the goal for him… and me!
The brown thrasher and red-belied woodpecker were taken in my backyard as the rain was letting up. The dark background foliage helps accentuate the contrast and color saturation of the birds caused by the rain soaked feathers.
So, if you think glassing wildlife on a bright sunny day is ideal, next time it rains grab your rain jacket and head outside. You just might be surprised by what you see!
