Choices
I’m glad that God, in his infinite wisdom, gave us choices. There are many things in life I love, and some I don’t. I love Coke, but won’t drink Pepsi! I also love the color blue, depending on the shade, but I’m not a fan of yellow. “Whodunnits” and suspense movies are my favorites. Romcoms… not so much. So, as they say, variety is the spice of life.
However, when it comes to people we don’t have those same choices. We are commanded to love each other as we love ourselves. Whether it’s family, friends, neighbors, or those we don’t even know – our command is to love. We always have to insert the caveat, we don’t have to agree with everything people do, that’s not the point. The point is unless we begin from a position of love, what follows really won’t matter much.
Don’t just take my word for it. This guy is a pretty reputable source. “We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” 1 John 4:19-20
