To abstract or not to abstract?
That is the question. Abstraction in photography as used here means to extract from the overall scene. In the first photo below I was drawn to the wonderful colors and textures on this 19 degree morning. There was a heavy frost and the branches (mostly in the background) were lit up with highlights. I would have preferred for no ice on the pond, but that wasn’t my option. But it does help express the nature of the overall composition.
While wandering around a bit longer, just to the left of this image, I found this naked branch jutting up diagonally and set against the background cedars. I think this high contrast abstraction works.
