Schism – the roots grow deep and wide
Dictionary.com defines schism in these words – A formal division within, or separation from, a church or religious body over some doctrinal difference.
I’ve seen it happen far too many times where people were left with wounds that only God can heal. The next time a root of dissension begins to grow, perhaps we should take heed of this bit of wisdom. Look after each other so that not one of you will fail to find God’s best blessings. Watch out that no bitterness takes root among you, for as it springs up it causes deep trouble, hurting many. Need a visual to help? This cottonwood tree with a trunk diameter between 4-5 feet must be hundreds of years old. If I were to snap a picture of me standing next to it, I’d look like a toothpick. No other tree in this 1,200 acre plot even comes close to it’s size. There is no telling how far its roots reach. And, it doesn’t look like it’s coming down any time soon. Sound familiar now?
