It was a cold and foggy morning
I din’t know it was foggy in the valley until I made my way towards the hwy 364 bridge. I could see the fog in the distance and thought there may be a few compositions to snap.
Whenever I shoot fog, I usually convert the image to black and white. I think the varying contrast tends to add depth to the image. Both images were shot at Creve Coeur Park lake. This is one of my go to spots when I just want to get out of the house (even though it was 24 degrees this morning).
Another aspect of foggy, black and white compositions I look for is balance. The first image is pretty straight forward with a square crop. The set up didn’t take much forethought. The second image was a bit different. Notice the balance between the roots and the branches – this helps bring harmony to the composition along with the trunk positioned slightly to the right of center with the roots leading up to the base. The trunk is also the connector between the ground and sky.
Next time it’s foggy out, grab your camera or smart phone and give it a snap or two. I’ think you’ll be glad you did.
