Flawless
A favorite song of mine is Flawless by MercyMe. I’ll share the lyrics below.
I always enjoy seeing a newly emerged butterfly from its cocoon. In essence they are “flawless.” Not a mark on them. Such was the case today as I saw this tiger swallowtail blow through our garden.
It’s the result of a new birth. And, it’s the same way when we come to Jesus. In order to have a relationship with him and spend eternity in heaven he imparts his righteousness for our sinfulness – making us “flawless.” Don’t misunderstand! We screw up all the time as long as we walk this earth. Rather, I’m talking about our “position” in Christ not our “practice.”
You see, imperfect people can’t enter a perfect place like heaven. So, you’re probably thinking by now – then we’re all lost without hope! That’s the beauty of coming to Jesus, he makes us flawless by what he did on the cross. It’s not anything we could do on our own. Are we perfect here below – a resounding NO! (I like the way Rick Warren puts it. “We aren’t sinless, but we can sin less.”)
One day, when those of us who know Jesus as savior breathe our last breath we will experience what it’s like to be “flawless.”
Now for the chorus to Flawless.
No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless.
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless.
