Another chapter in the Witness of Creation
I guess I’ll call it a “chapter” since this is yet another follow up to my original post a few weeks ago on the Witness Creation/Worship the Creator.
I shared on Friday the joy I had with our good friend Jeff Mason, who hosts a podcast. During the podcast Jeff allowed me to share my passion of photography and the Gospel. And, because time is limited on the podcast (along with attention spans!), I wanted to share a bit more encouragement with you.
Do you believe that God created the universe and that he is actively engaged with his creation? With a resounding YES, I do! Here’s one reason. Decades ago I committed this verse from 2 Peter chapter 1 to memory, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (verse 3)
Think about that! The One who created it all, who sustains it all – gave us everything we need for “life and godliness.” It’s all here – under our feet and over our head! When God created he provided everything we need here during our time on earth (and beyond in heaven). There’s no need to fret if there will be enough resources to sustain a growing population. I think God is big enough to think that through – don’t you! But, not only that, his “divine power” also resources our godliness. No, it doesn’t mean we are perfect. However, it does mean that he is in the sanctifying business –moving us ever closer to the likeness of his Son.
Let’s go back and look at God’s created world once more. For example, do birds plant and grow crops – of course not. Scripture and nature tell us so. “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” Matthew 6:26
Now, knowing that God has resourced his creation, like this tiny wren, should we not be in awe that he went one step further in not only providing physical resources for us, but also spiritual resources?
Go outside. Look around. Take in the wonders of His provision. Be an eye witness! Then open his word and take in even greater provisions – provisions that draw us closer to Him. It’s amazing what you’ll find!
Now, do I recognize that we live in a fallen world where disease and sickness abound – another yes! And does mankind do unspeakable acts that violate and dishonor Him – absolutely. These things will continue until Jesus has the last word. But, even in our sickness, our weakness, and our ever-growing population, His power is enough. His resources won’t run dry. His blueprint for the planet is without error.
However, in the meantime, while we have breath, why don’t we “join with all nature in manifold witness” and extol His great faithfulness. We are created in His likeness. We are witnesses of His creation. And, we are the beneficiaries of His “divine power for everything we need for life and godliness.”
Be encouraged friends. The grand architect left nothing to chance! He has a plan for your life, for “He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.”
When the podcast link is available in early February, I’ll share it.
